According to the new resolution of Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers, the country imposes stricter quarantine measures effective from September 20. At the same time, four Western regions could fall in the "red" zone, including Chernivtsi, Ternopil, Volyn, and Zakarpattya Oblasts, as was stated by the Ukrainian Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.
"Currently, the Chernivtsi region – and then Ternopil, Volyn, and Zakarpattya Oblasts – are heading toward the "red" level of the epidemiological danger," he said.
Lyashko highlighted that while there are more individual Covid-19 cases in Kyiv and Kharkiv, when looking at the ratio of cases to 100,000 of the population, the most dangerous situation is in the West.
"If we see an overload of the healthcare system, we will suggest moving a certain region to the red zone," Lyashko summarized.
It's worth noting that quarantine restrictions will be far lighter for vaccinated Ukrainians. The decision came amid the new surge of coronavirus cases, with 5,744 cases being registered on September 16.
